Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Key Features
Announcement and Release History
The Switch 2 version was originally planned for 2025. On October 23, 2025, the official Elden Ring account announced a move to 2026 “to allow time for performance adjustments” after weak hands-on performance at events such as Gamescom 2025. A firm date followed on June 4, 2026: August 28, 2026. Both the Switch 2 edition and the Tarnished Pack launched on that day. Support for the pack on existing platforms was added by free Patch 1.17 on August 27, 2026.

Updates and News for Elden Ring Tarnished Edition
What the Edition Adds
Launch content is no longer limited to the four armor sets and three Torrent options shown in the April 2, 2025 trailer. The finished package also adds two starting classes, additional weapons, and the two invasion events above. The trailer armor that recalled Lucatiel of Mirrah from Dark Souls II (and the Mirrah / Hollowslayer line in Dark Souls III ) shipped as Leontiel’s Armor Set . The extra red cloth seen in announcement shots is part of that remake, closer to a muleta than to Lucatiel’s original cape. Earlier speculation that Anri of Astora and Horace the Hushed would also receive full remade sets did not match the shipped four-set list.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is the Switch 2 complete package of the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree , and the new classes, gear, Torrent attire, and invasions. Other platforms receive only the new extras through the Tarnished Pack .
Mount customization is new to Elden Ring with this edition. The three confirmed Spectral Steed Attire options are Tree Sentinel, Silver of Caria, and Funereal Night. The white / silver look shown in announcement art corresponds to the Carian option; the horned black caparison is Funereal Night.
The remade Lucatiel-inspired set is Leontiel’s set, shown above. It is more militaristic than Lucatiel’s Dark Souls II armor, with heavier coverage and finer ornament. It is not a copy of Lucatiel’s Set or the later Mirrah Set.
Gamescom 2025: Heavy Knight First Look
Gamescom 2025 (August 20–24) included a Nintendo booth demo of Tarnished Edition on Switch 2. That build showed the Heavy Knight in character creation and in the Chapel of Anticipation tutorial. Early coverage described unstable performance, especially in handheld and open areas; Bandai Namco later cited those issues when delaying the game from 2025 to 2026.
Demo footage showed the Heavy Knight in dark heavy plate with a curved greatsword. Bandai later confirmed the second origin as the Idus Knight , not the earlier community name “Knight of Ides.”
Launch reviews generally describe a 30 fps target in both docked and handheld modes: playable and much more stable than the 2025 event builds, but still below PS5 / high-end PC frame rates, with occasional drops and imperfect frame pacing.
Will The Tarnished Edition Content Be Available For PlayStation, Xbox, or PC?
Yes — but not as another “Tarnished Edition.” Bandai Namco confirmed that the extra classes, armor, weapons, Torrent attire, and invasion events ship on those platforms as the paid Tarnished Pack DLC on August 28, 2026.
The pack’s standard European price is €4.99 (Japan ¥550 including tax). It requires the base game and Patch 1.17 or later. Shadow of the Erdtree remains a separate purchase on those platforms. On Switch 2 the same extras are already inside Tarnished Edition and do not need a second purchase.
